The Jungle Haven Surf Camp is designed for a group of 2-6 shortboard surfers looking for a surf guide and accommodations which are a notch or two above the typical Costa Rica surf trip. By Costa Rica standards, this is a upper end "Bed & Breakfast" for surfers. The camp is located in a Costa Rican jungle 1.5 miles from the beach. The design is intended for those who want the real jungle experience while still able to hit the surf in about 5 minutes.
The Jungle Haven Surf Camp was designed around my frequent surf trips I make alone to Costa Rica. I know and surf with the locals at the best spots and then come home after my session to a beautiful empty house. What if I shared this with other surfers? This is a non-smoking in the house and if you use drugs here, I will give you your money back and ask you to leave. Follow the Costa Rica laws with regards to alcohol. As an emergency room doctor, I will provide minor medical treatment or advice. The sole purpose of this camp is - surfing & fun!
There are 2 rooms available for 2 to 6 people. (Your guide gets the master bedroom.) The Queen Room has a queen bed that sleeps 2. The Surf Room sleeps 4 with a triple bunk and a twin bed. The camp includes accommodations, daily surf trips, drinking water, one meal a day prepared at the house, and transportation to and from the airport. I will take minors, but only after I meet your parents in person or by telephone. $600 per person per week (minimum 2 people). $500 with discount.*
*$100 discount if you book a leg of your round trip on the same US Airways flight I am flying from Phoenix (PHX) to San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) and back. Alternatively, use another airline whose arrival and departure times are close. Contact me to coordinate.
Playa Hermosa is five miles South of the town of Jaco. Jaco has a bunch of stuff to do if you like the city, but Hermosa has the waves. Playa Hermosa has been voted the second most consistent break in the world! While Jaco offers waves for both beginners and experienced surfers to enjoy, Playa Hermosa is an expert surfer’s beach with powerful large waves. Playa Hermosa hosts the International Quicksilver Surf Championshipsevery year in August that literally brings hundreds of expert surfers here from all over the globe. The biggest surf in Playa Hermosa is from April to November. Be aware that heavy September & October rains have ruined trips in the past.
